Finalmente Leonardo DiCaprio lo logró y ganó su primer Oscar como Mejor Actor, por su trabajo en El Renacido, la película dirigida por el mexicano Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Esta vez, para llevarse la estatuilla el actor tuvo que competir contra Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Matt Damon (The Martian), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs) y Eddie Redmayne (La chica danesa).
"Gracias a la Academia. Debo felicitar a mis colegas por sus actuaciones. El Renacido es fruto de un equipo de trabajo incansable", dijo el actor al subir al escenario a recibir su primera estatuilla.
"Has abierto caminos con tu trabajo", le dijo luego al director Alejandro González Iñarritu y le agradeció a todos los que lo ayudaron en su carrera, especialmente a Martin Scorsese, a sus padres y amigos.
"Hay que adoptar a líderes que no hablan en nombre de grandes corporaciones, sino de las poblaciones, por la gente que vio sus voces acalladas por la codicia, no tomemos a la ligera nuestro planeta", cerró.
